List the connected accounts
A website can depend on a domain registrar, hosting provider, email service, analytics account and third-party tools. Record the owner and administrator for each. The business should have an appropriate recovery route that does not rely entirely on one external person.
Clarify licences and transfers
Ask which design assets, plugins and fonts are licensed and under whose account. Some subscriptions cannot simply be transferred to another provider. Keep the relevant terms and renewal information so a future change does not unexpectedly remove essential functionality.
Use role-based access
Give contributors the access required for their role. Avoid sending passwords through enquiry forms or storing them in a public project document. Review access at the end of the project and keep a record of who remains responsible for maintenance.
Keep a handover pack
Request instructions for routine content updates, backup arrangements and support contacts. Confirm how to obtain an export or backup if the service relationship changes. Clear ownership reduces disruption and makes the website a more dependable business asset.
